JICA Training Course 2001 |
| This
training course was geared towards a general introduction to the environmental
management of enclosed coastal seas in Japan, such as the Seto Inland Sea, Tokyo
Bay and Ise Bay, both through lectures and working on-site with professors, researchers
and officials. The course is for young public officials and researchers in this field from developing countries that are facing the same kind of problems in their own coastal areas. Through this course, we had many opportunities to visit national/local institutes and organizations, and companies, etc. to develop a network between the participants and local Japanese. The main issues covered in Course 2000 were: Environmental management and the social background of Japan Regulations, policy and future approaches to water quality Waste water treatment / Monitoring and Analysis Water Pollution Mechanisms and Modeling / Water quality evaluation Fisheries administration / Environmental education Environment Impact Assessment / related issues The course included Japanese language lessons conducted mainly in Hyogo prefecture from August 7 through October 22 under the guidance of the course leader, Prof. Hiroshi Tsuno. The participants discussed environmental issues not only in lectures but also with each other and in meetings with citizens of Kobe. The Center hopes that these experiences in Japan will be useful for the participants. We also hope that this network will benefit and enhance environmentally friendly activities in each participating country in the future. Numbers of the participants of this coarse since 1990
