2. THE PRESENT CONDITION OF INDUSTRY

2.1 Industry in the 13 Prefectures around the Seto Inland Sea

  The trend of the gross product and the rate of product by industries from 1990 to 1994 of the 13 prefectures around the Seto Inland Sea are shown in Figures 2-1 and 2-2, respectively.

  The gross product of the 13 prefectures is \/121,584,000,000,000 in 1994 and increased by \8,993,000,000,000, that is the increasing rate is 8 %, in the last 5 years, which means the rate per year is only 1.6 %.

  With regard to the rate of the industry, the primary is 1.2 %, the secondary is 31.1% and the tertiary is 67.7 %. The secondary industry rate has decreased by 3.5 %, while the tertiary industry rate has increased by 3.7 %, but this condition has not changed remarkably,.
