3. THE PRESENT CONDITION OF RECLAMATION

3.1 Reclaimed Area in the Seto Inland Sea

  The several districts around the Seto Inland Sea have been reclaimed. As shown in Table 3-1, the reclaimed area during 1898 ? 1924 was about 35 km2, and added about 66 km2 during 1925 ? 1949. Dramatically the area increased to be about 225 km2 from 1950 to 1973. The total reclaimed area from 1898 to 1997 has reached to about 432 km2. The trend of the reclaimed area in the Seto Inland Sea is shown in Figure 3-1.
