International EMECS Center conducts researches and surveys on environmental conservation and restoration of enclosed coastal seas with the cooperation of researchers, experts and related organizations.
International EMECS Center holds seminars and symposiums for information exchange on various themes such as integrated management of enclosed coastal seas, Sato-Umi and environmental studies for researchers, administrative officials, citizens, and enterprise, home and abroad.
In order to develop activities internationally, the Scientific and Policy Committee that consists of domestic and foreign researchers and administrative officials was established for advice and cooperation on EMECS activities. Information about publications of the committee members will be provided as much as possible on this homepage.
In cooperation with other international organizations, International EMECS Center has participated in the activities of the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) as a non-state partner to promote “Sustainable Development Strategy of the Sea of East Asia”.
Since 1990, International EMECS Center has implemented human resource development projects such as training course “The Environmental Management of Enclosed Coastal Seas”, commissioned by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and environmental education programs by using experimental facilities.
